I don’t think that an introduction between beauty bloggers is complete without revealing your nude lipstick collection, so I’ve decided to go ahead and Bare It All (yes, pun intended) about my nude lips favourites.
The nude lip has made such a bang in the world of beauty recently, and also picks up where we left off from the 90’s brown lip trend as well. As a result, there are literally countless of fantastic nude lipsticks available now, coming in lots of different textures, so many colours with varying undertones such as neutral, pink, orange, brown.
I think a nude lipstick is individual and VERY personal. And it might seem easy, but picking a nude lipstick for yourself can actually been a very hard and painful (sometimes disappointing) process. What everyone is learning now is: one nude lipstick may look like God’s creation on one person, but can wash out other people. Finding a nude lipstick that suits your skin tone is very much trial and error, but once you do find that ‘holy grail’ of nude lipsticks for yourself, you can rock the world.
Having a cool olive skin tone, I find that mauve-nudes and nudes with a brown undertone look the best on me. However, I tan really well (and fast) in the Summer so I stick to darker nudes in the Summer, and more peachy lighter nudes in the Winter. I do like a strong dark brown lip in the cooler months though *drool*
I have tried and failed at some nude lips, so I’ll be focusing on the products that suited me best in this post:
Category 1: Lipsticks
I have 6 lipsticks in the top of my nudes collection. Yes, 3 of them a MAC. Top row from left to right is:
- Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick in ‘1995’
- Teeez Cosmetics Eve’s Ready to Wear Lipstick in ‘Never-ending Nude’
- Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Colour in ‘Bare It All’
Bottom row from left to right is:
- MAC Matte lipstick in ‘Velvet Teddy’
- MAC Satin Lipstick in ‘Twig’
- MAC Satin Lipstick in ‘Faux’
Another favourite of mine is the Maybelline Colour Drama lip pencil in ‘Nude Perfection’ (not pictured but swatched below). It smells amazing, is really long lasting, has incredible texture and is a great dupe for Velvet Teddy.
My absolute favourite of these is Velvet Teddy. Yes I am another one of those crazed VT fans, but this honestly looks so flattering on me and I wear it almost every day! This is closley followed by 1995 though. I absolutely love this colour and it lasts for ages! When I am more pale, Faux looks incredible on my skin tone. It’s my most pinky-toned nude lipstick but works well for me when I am at my lightest.
Category 2: Liquid lipsticks
My top favourite liquid lipsticks are:
- Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in ‘Celebrity Skin’
- NYX Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Abu Dhabi’
Of these, Abu Dhabi takes the cake. It smells incredible, applies so unbelievably smooth on my lips and the tone of this shade is to die for. I love Celebrity Skin, but I have to be careful with this shade because when I am tanned it makes the colour appear grey on my lips and is not as pretty on fairer skin. I mostly wear this when I am more pale.
Category 3: Lip Stains
I have come across only ONE lip stain that I love in a nude shade. This one is by Covergirl and is Outlast Lip Stain in shade ‘445’. When I am at work, in the lab or just grocery shopping, this stain provides just enough colour to add a little ‘prettiness’ to your lips without going for a full on lip colour. It also lasts for ages as well! I really do love this sheer shade, but the felt tip dries out really quickly and it can be hard to apply. You definitely need a mirror for applying this product.
Here are my favourite nudes all lined up on my arm in natural light with no exposure editing. Note: This side of my arm is considerably lighter than my face so some colours appear differently on an arm swatch to a lip swatch.
Finding the perfect nude for your skin tone is hard work, and some that may work for me may not work for you. So let me know what your ultimate Nude lip product is by leaving a comment! I’d love to know what you think of some of mine as well 🙂
