I wanted to introduce a new series to my blog, and it wanted it to be something super positive in the midst of the stress and uncertainty in my life at the moment. ‘5 things that made me happy’ will be a recap of the things that sparked joy in my life each month if you will, to serve as a reminder that we can still find happiness in the smallest of things amongst the chaos of our daily lives.

This last month saw me live in Brisbane for a month away from home to undertake a work placement that would give me a new skillset for my career. I enjoyed every minute of it, and was so grateful to be given such an opportunity that would help advance my career but it did come at a price. Away from my home, away from my wonderful partner, away from my comforting pets, and away from my darling house plants (yep, you read that right. This girl is a dedicated plant Mum). Coming home was a really warming feeling, and it really did make me appreciate what I do have. Coming back was definitely something that made my heart full.

Tarteist Pro Palette. 5 things that made me happy

I’m just as much excited for a bargain as the next person. Tarte had a Treasure Hunt sale, where a small handful of their best-selling items were hidden in the site at crazy prices. I managed to pick up a few things, including their Tarteist Pro Palette (I also bought one for my MUA sister), their Tartelette in Bloom palette that I’ve wanted forever, and their maracuja eye makeup remover wipes. What would have cost me over $200 in AUS to buy, ended up cost me $80 all up incl. shipping and I have to be happy with that! When I arrived back home they were sitting in my makeup room cozy for me and the shades in the palettes are even more beautiful in person. Can’t wait to explore these palettes!

Maison de Sabre personalised phone case. 5 things that made me happy

One of the life mantras of millennials has to be ‘everything is better when it’s personalised’ and I have to agree. There is just something so nice about having an item that REALLY feels like its truly yours and having your initials stamped on it seems to do just that. I received a beautiful leather phone case* from Maison de Sabre in May and I just love it.

Strangely makes me feel proud to whip out my phone in public and be like, ‘yeah that’s right, my initials are FB’ LOL. You can also get clutches and wallets too. You can customise the items by the colour of the leather and whether you want gold or silver stamping. I need one in every colour now!

One of my best friends left Australia for good recently and it was a pretty emotional time. But as said in Winnie the Pooh, I have to count myself lucky to have someone so amazing in my life that makes saying goodbye so hard. Unbeknownst to us, she commissioned a piece from a local Adelaide artist to depict us and our friendship (and Lupin!) and I just love it. Despite it making me ugly cry for about 10 minutes, deep down it was something that made me so happy and feel really lucky that I have friends like this in my life.

While in Brisbane, Sam came to visit over a few days and we took the opportunity to explore the hinterlands and coastlines around Brisbane. We visited places we’ve been to before and loved while living in Brisbane years ago, and new places we always wanted to visit but never got around to. Going on day trips and exploring new places is something that’s always made me happy and it feels like something I haven’t done a lot of lately, so my heart really did enjoy the venturing.

    1. That’s so me too. There’s something so comforting about being home in your own and just enjoying the surroundings you’ve worked so hard to build. Home is my personal slice of heaven.

  1. What a wonderful idea for a series! We do tend to emphasize the negative so it’s definitely a good thing to remember the positives in life. As for my one positive for May, I turned 30!
